"The BOAT" By Lothar-Gunther Buchheim. (Fiction) Originally translated from German “The Boat” gained great fame when it became the movie thriller, “Das Boot.”  The extraordinary tale of life and death in a World War II German U-Boat.  During World War II the author served in the German navy as a Lieutenant on mine sweepers, destroyers and finally submarines.  While his book is a novel, it is largely based on Buchheim’s own experiences as an official naval war correspondent aboard a German U-boat during World War II. 1975 Hardback edition with dust jacket. 463 pages, no photos, maps or index.
