"U-BOAT 977" - By Heinz Schaeffer. Introduction by Nicholas Monsarrat. In December 1944, author Heinz Schaeffer assumed command of the newly commissioned U-977. Surviving the Battle of the Atlantic in other -boats, Schaeffer finally took U-977 into action in April 1945. One month later, Germany surrendered and Schaeffer was ordered to surface and give-up. Instead of returning to Germany, the commander turned his U-boat and ran for South America. Using his Snorkel to keep out of site, U-977 safely arrived at Buenos Aires on August 17, 1945. Some of the Allies believed Hitler had escaped Germany aboard U-977. 1953 first edition Hardback, with Dust Jacket. 260 pages, U-977 diagram inside. Duplicate “U-977 Last Voyage” maps inside front and back covers. No photos or index.
